Smith, Alexander, & Morgan, L.L.P., is a law firm with deep roots in Asheboro and Randolph County, North Carolina. The founding partner, Archie L. Smith (Wake Forest School of Law, 1940), entered into the practice of law on Lawyer’s Row in 1945, after serving as a North Carolina Probation Officer and completing a tour of duty with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Like most of the attorneys in Asheboro at that time, Mr. Smith worked as a general practitioner and provided legal services in a wide variety of areas. He maintained a busy office practice as well as a full courtroom schedule and, under his direction, we became a leading firm in the community. Over time, with the increased regularity and complexity of technical changes in many areas of the law, it became apparent that we could enhance the level of client services by moving away from the general practice concept. With this in mind, we began to narrow the scope of our practice. . .initially concentrating our professional services in the areas of residential and commercial real estate transactions and municipal law, as attorneys for the City of Asheboro. Charlie B. Casper (Wake Forest School of Law, 1958) joined the firm {Smith & Casper} in 1960. With a keen interest in real estate law, he developed this area into a significant segment of our practice and provided professional services in connection with all types of real estate transactions for more than thirty-five years. Following Mr. Smith’s retirement in 1981, Mr. Casper became the Asheboro City Attorney and he held that position, while also serving as town attorney for several other Randolph County municipalities, until his retirement in 1996. Upon his release form active duty with the U.S. Navy JAG Corps, Archie L. Smith, Jr., (Wake Forest School of Law, 1969) joined the firm {Smith, Casper & Smith} in 1975. As a partner, Mr. Smith actively developed new areas of the practice and, in July, 1999, he opened our second law office at Coxborough Professional Premises, where is private practice is limited to business law, estate planning, and estate administration. In addition, he has served as the Asheboro City Board of Education Attorney since 1990. After a successful private practice and public calling, as an Assistant District Attorney, J. Wilson Alexander, Jr. (Wake Forest School of Law, 1976) joined the firm {Smith, Casper, Smith & Alexander} in 1986. Mr. Alexander practices predominately in the areas of residential and commercial real estate and provides services to our clients in transactions involving all phases of real estate acquisitions, transfer, development and financing. Mr. Alexander and our real estate staff are located at our Worth Street office, where all closing and other property-related transactions are conducted. Our concept for providing professional services has been embraced by the community and we have enjoyed remarkable growth in our practice in recent years. In 1998, in order to maintain our long-standing tradition of providing quality client services, in a timely fashion, we associated Ben C. Morgan (University of Tennessee School of Law, 1998). On January 1, 2004, Mr. Morgan joined the firm {Smith, Alexander & Morgan} as a partner, practicing primarily in the areas of business law and commercial real estate. Mr. Morgan also schedules office appointments, at our Coxborough office, for consultation in matters involving traffic citations, debt collections and foreclosures. |
